Perched on the flattened crown of a hill, the site of Torre Campanaria Peglio holds a quiet tension between exposure and refuge. The bell tower stands as a solitary sentinel, once amarker of vigilance, overlooking a landscape shaped by gradients, distance, and time.

Bastion emerges as an echo of this condition.
‍

Not as a reconstruction of fortification, but as a reinterpretation of its logic.
The steep incline leading to the plateau recalls the defensive glacis, a terrain that exposesapproach, slows movement, and heightens awareness. At the summit, the ground resolvesinto a moment of stillness: a clearing. Here, the pavilion anchors itself not as an objectplaced upon the land, but as a continuation of its defensive geometry.

Drawing from Italian Renaissance fortification systems of the fifteenth century, thepavilion reinterprets four defensive elements: mantelet, battery, palisade and gallery, into a timber structure that engages the slope not as something to conquer, but as something to acknowledge. Together, these elements construct a spatial narrative of approach, compression, and release.

Bastion is not defensive in function, but defensive in memory.
